Custom-Fabricated Multi-Stage Scrubber for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
ERG Hygrade recently supplied a high-performance Venturi scrubber system to a blue-chip UK pharmaceutical company, replacing an outdated unit that no longer met efficiency or emission standards.
The new scrubbing plant was purpose-designed to remove hydrogen chloride gas (HCl) from a key process stream, handling an airflow of 200 kg/hr at 180°C. To manage the high temperature and corrosive duty, the system included a Hastelloy C-22 quench tower to cool the gas before scrubbing, followed by four GRP Venturi scrubbers operating in series. These were fabricated using high-temperature resins and mounted alongside the quench tower on a common recirculation and sump tank.
Hygrade also supplied a PFA-lined recirculation pump, PTFE-lined carbon steel pipework, and associated water feed and drain lines. The entire scrubber package — including all instrumentation — was fabricated to BS 4994 standards, fully assembled onto a skid base, and tested at Hygrade Works before dispatch.
This turnkey fabrication approach ensured precise fit, high reliability, and minimal on-site assembly time for the client.
